Mole Removal SURGEON Redondo Beach
Moles are very common and are known as abnormal growths in the skin. In fact, most people have anywhere between 10 to 40 moles on their body according to the American Academy of Dermatology. While many moles are harmless, people sometimes choose to get their moles removed for cosmetic reasons, or if a mole is irritating their skin. However, sometimes moles can become cancerous or have the potential of becoming cancerous, in which case people will choose to have them removed.
Dr. Ardesh and his team are highly experienced with mole removal in Redondo Beach and can assist with your cosmetic and pre-cancerous concerns.
Types of Moles
Moles come in many different shapes and sizes. There are flat moles, raised moles, and pre-cancerous moles. Flat moles are often dark spots on the skin and are typically small. Raised moles can be small or large, a light or darker color, and often extend beneath the surface of the skin. Both flat and raised moles can have a variety of textures. Some individuals do not like the appearance of the moles on their skin and therefore decide to have them removed, especially when located on the face or neck.
Pre-cancerous moles are more serious. These types of moles frequently change in size, shape, and color. Sometimes they will bleed. If you experience any of these things with a mole you should immediately have the mole inspected by your dermatologist. They will examine the ABCDEs of the mole, which stands for Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, and Evolution.

Alternatives to Laser Mole Removal
Shave Mole Removal
Shave mole removal—sometimes referred to as shave excision mole removal—is a non-invasive technique to get rid of unwanted moles. It is a simple, in-office procedure, leaving patients with minimal scarring and virtually no downtime.
With this technique, local anesthetic is administered to the area(s) having a mole removed. Then, Dr. Ardesh uses a specialized tool to shave the mole off of the skin's surface. This type of mole removal is typically reserved for moles that are elevated above the skin, as it allows for easy removal without penetrating deeper skin layers. After the procedure, you may experience mild discomfort or redness at the excision site, but these symptoms should subside after a few days. The procedure often results in minimal scarring, making it ideal for those seeing cosmetic mole removal.
If you are considering shave mole removal, consult with Dr. Ardesh to discuss the best removal procedure for you.
Excision Mole Removal
Excision mole removal is a technique that removes moles by cutting them out from the skin. This method is commonly used when a mole is deeper in the skin layers and/or when cancer is suspected.
The procedure is done in-office. It starts with local anesthesia administered to the area(s) having a mole removed. Dr. Ardesh will then carefully excise the mole and a margin of surrounding healthy tissue. A skin biopsy will be performed on the excised mole and tissue to ensure that any potential cancer cells have not spread. Once we have confirmed the margins are clear, your incision will be closed with stitches and bandaged.
While Dr. Ardesh takes care to minimize scarring, this method typically does result in a visible scar. After the procedure, you will experience minor discomfort, redness, and swelling. Dr. Ardesh will provide aftercare instructions to minimize pain and scarring.

What To Expect with Your Mole Removal
During your consultation, Dr. Ardesh and his team will evaluate your moles and listen to your concerns. They will then provide you with a specific treatment plan and if they recommend removing the mole, they will explain the specific procedure and answer any questions you might have.
The type of procedure you have done for your mole removal will depend on the specific type of mole. Most procedures take less than 1 hour and are very simple procedures.
A local anesthetic is always applied to the area in order to make the procedure as comfortable for you as possible. If the mole is primarily on top of the skin, it is considered to be superficial and can be shaved off.
If shaving treatment is not an option, Dr. Ardesh and his team will surgically remove the mole.
Again, each of these treatments is very straightforward and requires little to no downtime.
Patients often recover very quickly (within two weeks) from mole removal with Dr. Ardesh and his team. It’s recommended that you apply sunscreen to the area following the mole removal to protect the skin and to promote further healing.
